Top 5 things you must do in Bruce Peninsula
You’re going to need a floral shirt for this one! The Bruce Peninsula is one of the most beautiful places in Canada during summer. In recent years, it’s become a popular destination, with iconic landmarks like the Bruce Trail and the Cyprus Lake Grotto attracting visitors from all over the country. The Peninsula is located in the dazzling blue – Georgian Bay; which is part of the great Lake Huron, in Ontario. During the summer, the Peninsula transforms into a tropical ecosystem that will make you believe you’ve landed in the Caribbean.
Note: Due to the COVID-19 the Grotto was closed, and the activity was removed for my checklist for this trip.
#5 Georgian Bay Shores
Georgian Bay is part of the great Lake Huron, which is entirely within the borders of Ontario. Often referred to as the sixth Great Lake, Georgian Bay features more than 30,000 islands. Georgian Bay’s beauty needs to be seen in person to believe. It is filled with towering cliffs, endless beaches and the clearest blue water.
#4 Bruce Trail
The Bruce trail starts in Queenston, and is one of the most diverse and interesting hiking trails I’ve been on. You can easily catch the trail at Lion’s Head, just like I did. You’ll never be able to do it all, but you can experience the essence of it in just a short amount of time. The Bruce Trail is 782-km long, Canada’s oldest and longest footpath.
Hike Length: 782-km Out
Amount of Time to do: 30 days
#3 Devil’s Monument
The Devil’s Monument Loop Trail takes you to the most incredible rock formation. Devil’s Monument is the largest of the Bruce Peninsula’s flowerpot formations and one of the many spectacular places along the craggy shoreline known for incredible views. A Flowerpot is a type of sea stack, formed over many years as wind, rain and waves chip away at the cliff.
Address: Northern Bruce Peninsula, ON
Hike Length: 4-km loop
Amount of Time to do: 1 hour
#2 Greig’s Caves
You’ll feel a sense of adventure as you explore these limestone caves on the Bruce Peninsula. The trail stars off in the woods and slowly gets you to the cave where you’ll encounter rugged trails through large stones. The caves are open for visitors to self-guide, however some areas are restricted due to dangerous rocky terrain.
Address: 407 Scenic Caves Rd, Lion’s Head, ON
Hike Length: 1-km
Amount of Time to do: 30 mins

#1 Lion’s Lookout Point
The Lookout trail will lead you to a rock formation that, from a distance, resembles a lion’s head. From there you’ll have the best view of Georgian Bay. You’ll need to be careful on the route, as the trails are not fenced in and there are several potholes and sunken areas along the way. I would recommend this trail for average to expert level hikers only. But the hike is definitely worth the view.
Address: McCurdy Drive Parkette, Bruce Trail, Lion’s Head, ON
Hike Length: 15-km loop
Amount of Time to do: 3 hours
