Saskatchewan Legislative Building

The Edward and William Sutherland Maxwell of Montreal designed the Beaux Arts-style Saskatchewan Legislative Building, which was constructed between 1908 and 1912. Additionally, the Maxwells oversaw the building’s construction by P. Lyall & Sons of Montreal, who eventually constructed the Centre Block of the federal Parliament Building in Ottawa when the 1866 Parliament Building was destroyed by fire in 1916. In the fall of 1908, foundational piles were started, and the Earl Grey, the Governor General of Canada, lay the cornerstone in 1909.
