Previously a modest fishing community, Labuan Bajo (also spelled Labuhanbajo and Labuanbajo) is today a major tourist destination and the regional administrative hub. Although the local ecosystem is under some strain due to the sharp increase in visitors, tourist-support facilities are increasing swiftly.
