The Grotto – National Sanctuary

The Grotto, also called the National Sanctuary of our Sorrowful Mother, is a Catholic outdoor altar and sanctuary situated in Portland, Oregon’s Madison South neighbourhood. Built in 1924, the 62-acre sanctuary is situated both on top of and at the base of a 110-foot (34-meter) cliff. It’s a ministry of the Order of Friar Servants of Mary, also known as the Servite Friars.
