Old Idaho Penitentiary

Located east of Boise, Idaho, in the western United States, the Old Idaho Penitentiary State Historic Site operated as a jail from 1872 to 1973. The first structure, also called the Territorial Prison, was erected in the Idaho Territory in 1870, seven years after the territory’s founding and two decades before it became a state.
