Hole in the Rock

A natural geological formation called “Hole-in-the-Rock” may be seen in Papago Park, a Phoenix and Tempe, Arizona, municipal park.
Charles Poston identified and claimed “Hole-in-the-Rock” in 1892. Hole-in-the-Rock is a small hill made of bare red arkosic conglomeritic sandstone that has a succession of apertures (tafoni) that have been eroded away.
