Mount Bromo

Bromo Mountain is an active somma volcano in East Java, that is part of the Tengger Mountains. It is not the highest peak in the massif, but it is the most famous, with a height of 7,641 ft. The volcano is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, which is one of East Java’s most popular tourist sites. Bromo is derived from Brahma, the Hindu god of creation, as pronounced in Javanese. Mount Bromo is situated in the centre of a plain known as the “Sea of Sand” (Javanese: Segara Wedi or Indonesian: Lautan Pasir), which has been a nature reserve since 1919.
