When the Gateway Arch was initially built in 1928, it crossed Highway 11B, or Lakeshore Drive, and served as a welcoming arch for visitors to North Bay as well as a demarcation line between the city and West Ferris. It is now the entrance to a city parking lot and a significant landmark in North Bay, sometimes known as the “Gateway City.”
