St. Marks Lighthouse

The Florida town of St. Marks was regarded as a significant port of entry in the 1820s. The town functioned as a port for several South Georgian counties and the affluent Middle Florida planting zone. Growers used an old route that connected the town of St. Marks with Tallahassee, the territorial capital at the time, to transport their agricultural goods on carts down to the port town.
