The oldest known lighthouse still in use is called the Tower of Hercules (Torre de Hércules in Spanish, Torre de Hércules in Galician). Situated on a peninsula around 2.4 kilometres from the centre of A Coruña, Galicia, in northwest Spain, the tower dates back to the first century. It had the name Farum Brigantium up until the 20th century.
