The first ship in the US Navy to bear the name of Rear Admiral Isaac C. Kidd was USS Kidd (DD-661), a destroyer of the Fletcher class. Kidd was killed on the bridge of his flagship USS Arizona during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour in 1941. The first American admiral to be killed in battle and the first flag officer to pass away in World War II was Admiral Kidd.
